If you like all of these great freebies and deals, make sure you sign up for my newsletter.

As most of you know, I am part of the Chicken Soup for the Soul network. So, I get to pick and review any of the new books that come out. I am sure that almost everyone knows about the Chicken Soup for the Soul books. However, for those that don’t, Chicken Soup for the Soul books are collections of short stories sent in by real people about their own lives and experiences, or sometimes about the lives and experiences of close friends or relatives. These books are always at the top of the best sellers list.

Chicken Soup for the Soul:   Recovering from Traumatic Brain Injuries: 101 Stories of Hope, Healing, and Hard Work was compiled by Amy Newmark and Dr. Carolyn Roy-Bornstein with a foreward by Lee Woodruff.  They did a wonderful job of sharing great stories of dealing with the difficulties and touching moments of Traumatic Brain Injuries.

I have to admit that I don't have a lot of experience with traumatic brain injuries.  I worked with a student years ago that had TBI, traumatic brain injuries due to epilepsy and falls from seizures.  I don't think that people realize that TBI is not just from injuries but it can also be caused by multiple seizures over time.  My mom's cousin had epilepsy that caused pretty severe TBI by the time he passed away.  Of course, when he was born and while growing up, they did not have all of the methods they have now to control epilepsy.

The first story I read was at the beginning of the book, "I Have a Secret".  Boy, did it strike a chord with me.  Like the author, most people look at me and think "you look normal" or there is nothing wrong with you.  I have fibromyalgia, and while I look fine, I live in constant pain.  People look at the author and don't realize that he is dealing with TBI.  I love that he and the other gentleman that he talks about don't take what the doctors say as gospel.  When a doctor tells you that there is no help or that you will not get better, don't listen.  Keep searching for answers, and trying to push yourself to get better.  Never give up!!

There are so many more great stories in this book.  There are stories for everyone.  I'm sure you will find something you will like if not love.  I love that I can skip around and find the story or stories that interest me at that moment.

I loved this story and so many others in this book.  It is a great book that you will love.  I'm sure you will end up sharing the stories in this book with your friends and family.  There are so many good stories that you will have a hard time finding a favorite.  Here are the chapters you can choose from:

  1. But You Look So Normal
  2. Self-Discovery
  3. Never Giving Up
  4. Healing Power of Mother Nature
  5. Acceptance
  6. A Family Affair
  7. Attitude Is Everything
  8. Coping Strategies that Work
  9. Opportunity Knocks
  10. Making a Difference

One of the things people, especially reluctant readers and children, like about Chicken Soup for the Soul books is that you do not have to read this from cover to cover. You can skip around from story to story reading the ones that pique your interest. This makes it the perfect book for those that are not big readers.

I highly recommend this book, Chicken Soup for the Soul:   Recovering from Traumatic Brain Injuries: 101 Stories of Hope, Healing, and Hard Work. This book, like all Chicken Soup for the Soul books make great gifts, especially for those hard to buy for people.
