As you probably know, I love Chicken Soup for the Soul books. They are always full of such wonderful, inspirational stories and devotions. They always fill me with hope and joy.
Well, I am running a little behind in reviewing some of their books. There have been so many things going on with my grandmother's illness and death, my health, and several family emergencies that I just couldn't keep up. So, you will see several reviews and giveaways (hopefully) in the next few weeks.
I got Chicken Soup for the Soul: Family Caregivers: 101 Stories of Love, Sacrifice, and Bonding right before my grandmother passed away. It has been a little difficult to bring myself to review this one. Why? I wasn't the one that took care of my grandmother, but every time I look at the book it reminds me of Grandma and my aunt.
I have finally gotten around to reading it. It has not disappointed me in the least bit. It follows along in the same tradition as other Chicken Soup for the Soul books. This one is by Joan Lunden and Amy Newmark. Joan Lunden is one of the perfect candidates for writing this one. She is the caregiver for her mother. She shares her own story in the Introduction of the book.
Most of us will become a caregiver at some point in our lives. If you are a caregiver or know a caregiver, this may just be the way to renew your spirit during trying times. I can't imagine how difficult it is to take care of your parents or for that matter anyone that isn't my child. Trying to take care of any other adult can be challenging. You do not want to lower their self esteem or destroy their dignity. With this book, you can insights into how others handle these difficult situations.
You can search the book to find just the right story for your mood or read it from beginning to end. Here are the section headings:
- Lessons Learned
- All You Need Is Love
- Finding Joy
- Acceptance
- Laughter Is the Best Medicine
- Perseverance
- Blessings
- Saying Goodbye
This book makes a great present. You do not have to wait for an occasion to give this present. If you know a caregiver, they just might need this book now. Besides, it is always nice to get a gift out of the blue for no occasion at all, except that you are thinking of them.
